On February 13, 2019, by the order of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine, UkrNDMI was renamed into the State Institution "Scientific Center of Mining Geology, Geoecology and Infrastructure Development of the NAS of Ukraine" (SI “SCMGGID NAS of Ukraine), hereinafter - the Center.

Currently, the Center has 33 employees, including one doctor and three candidates of sciences. The structure of the Center is developed by the directorate, considered by the Scientific and Technical Council and approved by the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine. The main structural unit of the Center is a scientific unit, the main task of which is to conduct scientific and scientific-technical activities. The structural subdivisions of the Center are scientific subdivisions (departments, laboratories), as well as managerial, scientific-auxiliary, auxiliary and other subdivisions and services. Temporary scientific (creative) teams can be formed to solve certain tasks.

THE MAIN TASKS OF THE CENTER ARE:

• conducting basic and applied research in relevant areas of science and technology in the field of geology, geophysics, geomechanics and surveying, displacement and deformation of rocks and the earth's surface, protection of mine workings, buildings, structures and networks to obtain new scientific knowledge and their use for practical purposes.
• development and substantiation of admissible parameters of forgery and overwork of mine workings.
• conducting scientific and technical (experimental) developments based on scientific knowledge obtained as a result of scientific research or practical experience, in order to bring such knowledge to the stage of practical use.
• provision of scientific and technical services.
• conducting scientific and scientific-technical examination.
• training of highly qualified scientific personnel through postgraduate studies.
• ensuring high quality of scientific research and scientific and technical (experimental) developments, systematic accumulation and generalization of scientific results, creation of conditions for realization of creative possibilities of scientific collective and social protection of workers.
• provision and development of scientific infrastructure, carrying out material and technical support of scientific activity with material resources.
• informing the general public about the results of their activities.

The center in accordance with the main tasks carries out:

• study of the formation and evolution of the stress-strain state of rocks and the earth's surface;
• development of recommendations for the protection and maintenance of the whole complex of mine workings and rational planning of mining operations;
• development of recommendations for mining in hazardous areas;
• forecasting and prevention of mountain strikes and gas-dynamic phenomena;
• development of recommendations for the development of protective layers to combat sudden emissions of coal, rock and gas;
• development of scientific bases and practical recommendations for methane extraction from man-made reservoirs of the mountain massif;
• study of sources and ways of migration of hydrocarbon gases in coal mines;
• study of the genesis and dynamics of explosive gases in coal seams and mine workings;
• development of projects and hydrogeological forecasts of flooding of mine workings, which are eliminated by wet conservation;
• development of methods for forecasting the condition and protection of buildings and structures operated in difficult mining and geological conditions;
• observation of deformations of the earth's surface, rock mass, mine workings, buildings, structures and networks;
• long-term observations of buildings, structures, pipelines and railways under the influence of mine workings, including flooding, in order to predict the danger of their technical condition and timely implementation of protection measures;
• development of landslide monitoring systems and landslide prevention technologies;
• fundamental and applied geological and geophysical research on the problems of forecasting mining and geological conditions of coal seams and construction tasks in the forged areas and extraction of reserves under built-up areas;
• elucidation of the deep structure of geological structures by geophysical methods;
• geomechanical, geological-geophysical and hydrogeological studies of ecological changes in the environment, monitoring of the geological environment;
• geophysical, geomechanical works on the study and forecast of dangerous physical and geological processes (karst phenomena, suffocation, flooding, landslides and debris, mudslides, abrasion and erosion, including shores, landslides, etc.);
• search for mineral deposits by geological and geophysical methods using ground-based methods and remote sensing;
• forecasting of mineral deposits by petrological, geochemical, mineralogical and geophysical methods;
• comprehensive petrological and geochemical assessment of mineral deposits in terms of investment attractiveness;
• forecast of promising areas of minerals both within known deposits and in new regions;
• forecasting of mining and geological conditions at open and underground mining of mineral deposits;
• geological support of geological exploration works;
• assessment of radiation safety of development of mineral deposits with increased radioactivity of ores on the basis of data of well logging of wells;
• assessment of environmental safety in the development of deposits of building materials;
• development of projects and comprehensive monitoring of the geological environment on the basis of existing engineering structures (environmentally hazardous facilities, industrial sites, stadiums, tailings, dams, heaps, etc.);
• identification and mapping of potentially dangerous areas (old mine workings, pits, tectonic faults, etc.) and development of recommendations for safe operation of surrounding areas;
• development of mathematical and software for processing and interpretation of geological, geophysical and other data;
• development of recommendations for the development of protective layers to combat sudden emissions of coal, rock and gas;
• development of scientific bases and practical recommendations for methane extraction from man-made reservoirs of the mountain massif; 31. study of sources and ways of migration of hydrocarbon gases in coal mines;
• study of the genesis and dynamics of explosive gases in coal seams and mine workings;
• creation of electronic models and maps of mineral deposits, mining enterprises;
• creation of databases and development of information and geoinformation systems, as well as automation systems, geological and other works, modern software in various fields of science and production;
• creation of electronic maps of thematic orientation of any level of complexity;
• development of normative documents on maintenance, protection, rational location and liquidation of mine workings;
• development of normative documents on conducting comprehensive monitoring of the state of the geological environment on the basis of existing engineering structures;
• development of normative documents based on the results of performed research on mining and engineering geology, geophysics, and mining;
• search of open-pit and underground drilling technical wells;
• development, design and manufacture of geophysical equipment and facilities for geological environment research and monitoring of hazardous geological processes;
• development, design and manufacture of explosive equipment and equipment for geophysical research in the conditions of mine workings;
• control over grouting works in the mountain massif;
• search for old underground communications;
• development of innovative projects in the field of modern technologies of mining, their engineering and technical support and environmental safety;
• logistical support of research and experimental development in the field of natural and technical sciences, conducted by budgetary institutions of the NAS of Ukraine;
• acceptance and generalization of orders from budgetary institutions of the NAS of Ukraine for necessary goods according to the approved forms with necessary calculations and substantiations;
• purchase of goods at the expense of the State Budget of Ukraine on behalf of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine;
• transfer of purchased goods to the institutions of the NAS of Ukraine on the basis of the decision of the Presidium of the NAS of Ukraine.

CENTER:

• develops with the participation of the scientific team the main scientific directions of its activity;
• organizes and conducts research, research and development, design and engineering, technological, exploratory and design and exploration work in accordance with the approved main scientific areas of activity and work plans;
• studies, analyzes and summarizes the achievements of world science in the relevant field and identifies opportunities for their use in all spheres of public life, participates in the development and implementation of international programs and projects;
• develops forecasts and conducts scientific expertise in relevant areas of science and technology;
• on behalf of the NAS of Ukraine or on its own initiative develops forecasts, information and analytical materials, proposals, recommendations on certain issues of state and society development, carries out scientific and scientific-technical expertise in accordance with agreements concluded with individuals and legal entities;
• participates in competitions of scientific projects, scientific and technical developments and competitions for grants, including international competitions, based on the results of competitions ensures the implementation of relevant works and activities;
• holds conferences, meetings, symposia, exhibitions, scientific schools, including international ones;
• carries out publishing activities of scientific, educational and educational nature, acts in the prescribed manner as the founder of the printed media of scientific journals and scientific publications;
• has its own official website, provides information on the main scientific directions, structure and results of the Center, regularly updates this information, as well as promotes coverage in the media and social networks of important achievements and important events in the life of the Center and other scientific materials of public interest;
• conducts competitions to fill vacancies of researchers, certifies employees of the Center;
• conducts educational activities in the field of higher education, provides educational services by training specialists in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Higher Education", including through graduate school, takes measures to improve the skills of researchers, promotes the scientific component in education and attracts talented youth to scientific activity;
• develops the structure and staffing within the available funds and approves it in the manner prescribed by the NAS of Ukraine;
• concludes agreements and contracts on scientific and scientific-technical cooperation with legal entities and individuals. Participates in the implementation of international scientific and scientific-technical programs and projects in the manner prescribed by applicable law;
• participates in the activities of scientific societies, associations, unions and unions, including foreign and international, as their members, conducts other forms of joint activities in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine;
• in agreement with the NAS of Ukraine may be a member of associations of legal entities in order to perform their statutory tasks while maintaining the status of a legal entity and financial independence;
• provides paid services according to the list determined by the legislation for budgetary scientific institutions and in accordance with its Charter;
• processes personal data in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Personal Data Protection".

The Center has the right to enter into lease agreements for property, including real estate, which is recorded on its balance sheet in the manner prescribed by the NAS of Ukraine.
